Sitting under an oak tree and reading, is a classic, picturesque moment that is captured by books and photography alike. This blog is about those books you might read under that tree, but since there are a lot of things you can do under an oak tree, I'll talk about a lot more than just books on this blog.

Marked by P.C. Cast and Kristen Cast
Marked was a good book. It's not something I would go screaming around my house about, but it was still pretty good. It's one of those pleasure books that are very high-schooly. Kind of like The Clique series, but the writing's better.
One thing I really liked about this book was that it was so teenagey and real. I really felt like this girl was real and she was telling me her story. I actually have a post-it (me being obsessed with post-its) about this from very early on in the book.
The second thing I really liked about Marked was that it kept moving. There was always something going on and the book moved at just the right pace. I guess I've just been reading too many slow paced books lately because really, this is how books should be.
Another comment on how real the book felt: I always felt sympathetic toward the main character, Zoey. In a lot of books I will disagree with the main character's actions and be like, "No. That's a stupid idea. What are you thinking?" (See my review of The Eternal Ones.) In this book when Zoey did some things that I might have potentially seen as "stupid ideas," I only sympathized with her on because that's probably what I would have done. It also wasn't hard to hate her stepfather. In a lot of books I will think, "Oh the stepfather/mother isn't really that bad." Not in this book.
The one thing I really did not like about Marked was that it seems to be part of a series. And not just any series, but a LONG one. I have a love, hate relationship with series. I love to read them because I love to see where the characters end up in their lives, but there's always other books that I want to read and I hate reading books in between books part of a series because then I kind of forget what's going on with the series. *Sigh* This fact didn't bring my rating down though. I promise.
Rating: 4 stars
Have you read Marked? What did you think? If you haven't read it, do you think you'll add it to your TBR list?

When I first started this series, I really enjoyed it. However 10 books later I am just tired of this series. It becomes very repetitive. I did like Marked though, great review.

Yeah... that's what I'm afraid is going to happen. And thanks. :)
DeleteHiya! Stopping through from the FF! I'm sorry to say this was not the book for me at all! I didn't make it past the third chapter, but your review makes me want to pick it up again!
