The Eternal Ones by Kirsten Miller

Rating: 3.5 stars

First of all, who hates stupid characters? Those ones that are like, "Oh! How could I not have seen it before? This is obviously what happened," and all you want to scream at them is, "Are you stupid? It's obviously NOT that." Know that character? Well, sadly, this book has one of those characters. Her name is Haven. I would love her as a character (she's an amazing fashion designer) if not for this one trait. She affects the whole book with this nonsense. It's a roller coaster ride!

Second of all, who loves amazing male characters? Those ones who you are like, "Can you materialize in real life and become my boyfriend? Please?" Well, this book has one of those characters. His name is Iain. He is amazing. He is now added to my list of book husbands.

Well now that we've gotten all that character stuff out of the way, lets talk about the actual book. Starting at the beginning.

This book started in the small town of Snope City, Tennessee and it stayed there. For about...I don't know...more than a third through the book?! I mean really. The whole third of the book that Haven was in Snope City everyone in her town (which is very religious by the way) said that she was possessed by the devil. Then, she went to New York to escape her town's craziness and, like I said before, it was a roller coaster ride. One minute she was head over heels in love with Iain, then the next minute she's like, "How could I love him? He's a liar and a murderer!" Then she'll fall back in love with him and you'll sigh and be like, "Finally!" Don't speak too soon though because she'll go right back to being convinced he's a liar and a murderer.

Now when I first picked this book up to read I was like, "Ehhhhhh..." When I finished it I was like, "I really liked the ending, but the book was...ehhhhhh...." Why are the endings always good? Why can't the author use their talent to make the rest of the book interesting too? Not that the rest of the book was bad. It was engaging enough. It was just really repetitive and the main character was stupid.

Favorite Quote:

"'Perhaps you two could finish this late?' Iain broke in. 'Beau, will you please watch the entrance for us?'
'What should I do if I see anything suspicious?'
'Kick a car' Iain said.
'Kick a car?'
'To set off the alarm.'
'Gotcha,' Beau said. 'Good thinking.'"

I don't know why I love this quote so much. I guess it's because of the fact that kicking a car is just something you don't do. It's also probably because it makes so much sense to do it.

My Markings

Have you read this book? What did you think? Do you agree or disagree with me? If you haven't read it, do you think you'll add it to you TBR list? Do you know what a TBR list is? Do you think I put too many questions at the end of this post?

  1. Eek I'm sorry you didn't like Haven I hate characters like her. But I like that one of the characters was really swoon-worthy! Glad you liked this one!
